- Random House latest big publisher to buy Sony Readers [TeleRead] – It’s great, but they’re using them to read pre-press manuscripts, so they’ve basically bought ergonomic laptops, and this has nothing to do with ebooks…
Stop Press for February 29th through March 31st

I’m not sure I quite agree that it has nothing to do with e-books. My perception of e-book readers – and this is based on considerable, if anecdotal, evidence – is that many, perhaps most, bibliophiles don’t see the attraction of them. However, in most cases, a week or two of actually using a reader is enough to convert them – call it the Andrew Marr principle. As publishers, we’re engaged in discussions with authors, agents and other interested parties about digital publishing – a significant culture shift for many people. Having e-book readers within the business has helped to enthuse and inform colleagues who are involved in those discussions, and is indicative of an interest in and commitment to publishing in this area.

Excellent point, George. I hope you’re right in this case…
